Gov. Steve Beshear, and his lovely First Lady, have asked us to invite you to his gala Derby Celebration, the morning of this year’s Kentucky Derby 141. Since 1936, there have been gatherings, both large and small, in the Capital City to celebrate the Kentucky Derby. The 2015 Derby Celebration will showcase our Capital City with new and traditional festivities for which the Governor’s Derby Celebration is known—offering plenty of entertainment, children’s activities and a variety of specialty vendors with arts, crafts and more. A free concert featuring bands from across the Commonwealth will headline the entertainment on the Jim Beam Brands Stage, located directly in front of the Old State Capitol. Several downtown restaurants will be open and offering special Derby morning fare. And, back again this year will be children’s favorites, the YMCA Derby Dash on Broadway and the stick horse races on the Old State Capitol lawn. Children can join in on the fun at the Derby morning festivities in Downtown Frankfort on Saturday, May 2. The YMCA is hosting FREE road races for kids as part of the Governor's Derby Celebration. All participants receive a customized race bib and running medal. Thanks to the Frankfort YMCA, Good Shepherd School and Whitaker Bank for sponsoring the event. To save time on Derby Day, please pre-register online HERE.  Please check in at the registration table on Broadway in front of the YMCA about 10-15 minutes before your child's scheduled race. Medals will be awarded at the finish line. You are welcome to run with your child. If you have questions, contact Melissa Bondurant at 502-227-9637 ext. 102. Gov. Beshear advises, “We hope you and your family will make plans to attend this exciting event in historic downtown Frankfort, on the morning of the first Saturday in May. Bring your family and invite your friends. This event is open to everyone!” Get your very own Governor's Derby Celebration invitation postcard (PDF)
