Summer time in the Jefferson Memorial Forest is a great time for camping and hiking. If you are looking for a thrilling action packed adventure then Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) invites you to “Go Ape” this summer.
“This is the first treetops adventure in Kentucky that allows everyone to zip through the forest on zip lines or climb to and around tree tops using various ladders,” says Welch. “District 13 is proud to have this new attraction because it will help generate needed funds for the Forest.”
Go Ape Treetop Adventure is a highly interactive 2-3 hour outdoor experience featuring zip lines, Tarzan swings, and awesome obstacles at heights of 40-50 feet in the trees.
The Go Ape Jefferson Memorial Forest course is made up of numerous rope ladders with 39 exciting crossings to include the Log Swing, Wobbly Ladder, Japanese Bridge, Plank Crossing, Yamazoe Steps, 2 Tarzan swings and 5 zip lines.
Overall, there are 5 individual sections within the course, each section taking you higher into the forest canopy and finishing with a zip line more exciting than the previous one!
“The best thing is that it did not cost any taxpayer funds. This company built the course, hired the employees and then will give Metro parks a percentage of the income up to $15,000 per year. This is a total win for getting revenue to sustain our forest!,” says Welch. “We also hope that the Fairdale area businesses will benefit by the folks who travel up the hill for a great adventure and come down hungry to purchase meals from our restaurants.”
Participant & Supervision Requirements:
Minimum age: 10 years old
Minimum height: 4ft 7in (55 inches)
Maximum weight: 285 lbs (subject to harness fit)
Supervision:
One participating adult (18+) is required to supervise up to two 10-15 year olds. 16-17 year olds do not require a supervising adult, but do require a waiver signed by their legal guardian or an adult (18+) who has obtained permission from the 16-17 year olds legal guardian. For 16-17 year olds, we recommend printing the waiver at home and bringing a signed copy with you to Go Ape.
