Every lover of light opera (and who isn’t?) will want to speed over to the ticket office at Louisville’s Actors Theatre, to reserve tickets for their performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic operetta, H.M.S. Pinafore.  The musicals start today, and will run through December 13.

Sponsored by Brown Forman, Pinafore is directed by Sean Graney and Thrisa Hodits, from an adaptation by Sean Graney, Andra Velis Simon and Matt Kahler.

Audiences will be invited to join Chicago theatre renegades The Hypocrites on the high seas—or, in this case, at a slumber party full of pajama-clad sailors—in their playful reimagining of the popular Gilbert and Sullivan classic.  Joseph, the Captain’s son, falls for lowly sailor Ralphina Rackstraw…but duty demands that he marry the lofty Admiral Dame Jo-Ann instead! Replete with guitars, ukuleles, and reversed gender roles, this comic tale of love, intrigue, and social satire comes to life as you’ve never seen it before.

You may want to add to your experience, by purchasing promenade seating.   If you do, you should come prepared to move around as a promenade ticket lets you share the space with the cast and allows you to sit or stand practically anywhere on the stage deck.

A truly unique and immersive experience, starting at $20. Call the Box Office at 502.584.1205 for more to purchase your promenade seating tickets.

During Actors’ production of H.M.S. Pinafore, their pajama party on the high seas, please consider donating a new, unused set of pajamas of any size (infant – 18 years old) for an area child in need. Donations may be made in the designated bins located in the lobby spaces throughout the run of H.M.S. Pinafore. For more information, visit pajamaprogram.org.

Pajama Program is a 501(c)(3) organization. For more information about Pajama Program, who they serve, or how to get involved visit pajamaprogram.org.

Gilbert And Sullivan: For He Is an Englishman lyrics:

ALL.

He is an Englishman!

BOAT.

He is an Englishman!

For he himself has said it,

And it's greatly to his credit,

That he is an Englishman!

ALL.

That he is an Englishman!

BOAT.

For he might have been a Roosian,

A French, or Turk, or Proosian,

Or perhaps Itali-an!

ALL.

Or perhaps Itali-an!

BOAT.

But in spite of all temptations

To belong to other nations,

He remains an Englishman!

He remains an Englishman!

ALL.

For in spite of all temptations

To belong to other nations,

He remains an Englishman!

He remains an Englishman!
