After one of Louisville’s busiest roads has been closed for four months, there’s finally some good news for the folks in Worthington, the students at Kentucky Country Day School, and everyone living near Kentucky Highway 22, East of Goose Creek.

Louisville Metro Councilman Glen Stuckel (R., 17) informs us that the roadway has been striped and ready to use, but crews are still working on installing the guardrails and anchoring the barrier walls.  The current estimate for reopening the road is tonight between 8 p.m. and midnight.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet would like to remind everyone that this area is still a work zone.  Please do not park your vehicle in an area that would block traffic flow, particularly at the intersection of KY 22 and Springcrest Drive.

KY 22 has been closed since April 3 when the culvert and roadway over Goose Creek washed out following a record rain event with seven inches falling in a 24-hour period.  This section of roadway carries an average of 12,000 vehicles per day.

Following the culvert collapse, KYTC engineers quickly designed a culvert replacement project which was advertised for bids on April 30.  The contractor successfully met the contract completion date of August 10, 2015, to insure the reopening of the roadway before Jefferson County Public Schools resume classes on August 12.
